Basset Hound - Widget - Large - Senior - Female - Dog
Name: Widget
BBR ID # xxxx
Age: 8
Gender: Female
Weight: 35 I'm being fostered in Wisconsin
About Me: Hello, my name is Widget! I came to BBR when a nice lady at Dunn County Humane Society contacted BBR to ask if I could come into a foster home instead of spending my days at the shelter. She said I wasn?t in great condition, had many ticks and tested positive for Lyme disease. I have completed treatment for that as well as being vaccinated for Rabies, DA2PPv & bordetella. However, the vet got an ugly surprise when I was in for surgery having a fatty mass removed from my belly and getting spayed- there was a large mass in my abdomen, barely attached to my small intestine. The vets were able to remove the entire mass, and also took a sample of a nearby lymph node for testing. (I also had a sebaceous cyst removed from my side and an encapsulated tumor removed on my back foot.) The lymph nodes tested clean, but the large mass was malignant. The vets looked around in my abdomen for any other signs of abnormalities (as well as a uterus, but didn?t find one so they figured out I was previously spayed) but everything else appeared normal.
I am otherwise healthy, comfortable and enjoying life. I am laid back and do well with other dogs (well, my foster mom says I tolerate them at least!) I completely ignore the three cats I live with, as well as the other small critters in my home. Stairs seem to be difficult for me so I am looking for a home where there are very few for me to navigate. I have no food aggression and don?t have any real leash training but I don?t try to run off after everything so I am doing ok with that. My foster mom is taking me to the vet to see why I am licking my feet so much because I could have allergies.
A word from Widget?s foster mom:
Widget is a sweetie. She loves attention and being petted. She does appear to be quite hard of hearing, but will happily respond to a ?come here? gesture when you get her attention. The main problem is that she does not appear to have been house trained, which leads me to wonder whether she was kept outside all the time in a previous life. She is slowly learning to do her business out in the yard with the other dogs, but we are still wiping up several puddles a day. Fortunately, she usually goes on the kitchen floor ? easy enough to mop up! She does not appear to be in any pain from her cancer surgery, and is an enthusiastic eater. Is there someone out there who might be willing to take in an adorable little girl and give her a forever home with lots of love and cuddles, and cozy places to nap???
